Conference Theme
Playing Childhood: Boundaries and Digital Experiences
Game Studies is an interdisciplinary field concerned with the social, cultural, political and economic dimensions of digital games. As digital games have become an increasingly significant part of children’s and adolescents’ everyday lives, the field has also engaged with questions surrounding digital environments shaped by continuous engagement, platform economies, datafication and new forms of social interaction.
Digital games are widely recognised as spaces for play, learning, creativity and sociability. At the same time, they raise important questions regarding boundaries, mediation, digital well-being and the protection of children and young people in increasingly complex online environments.
These challenges invite critical and interdisciplinary perspectives that consider how childhood intersects with issues such as gender, race, class, accessibility and neurodiversity, while also acknowledging the social, cultural and institutional specificities of different national contexts.
The theme of DiGRA Brasil 2026, Playing Childhood: Boundaries and Digital Experiences, seeks to foster discussion around these contemporary issues. At the same time, the conference welcomes submissions on any topic related to Game Studies. The suggested topics presented below are intended to encourage discussion and should not be understood as limiting the scope of submissions.
